First, let’s take a look at Stewart’s new collagen powder. Available in three flavors (unflavored, lemon, and coffee), Marine Wellness Collagen Scoop boasts 60 calories per scoop and 15 grams of protein per serving.

“Collagen is a type of protein found in connective tissues such as the skin and joints, and our bodies actually produce it naturally. However, as we age, its production may slow down, and this is completely normal,” says Ball. “While these supplements can be a good source of protein and collagen, there are many other cheaper ways to meet your needs. Protein can be found in a variety of foods, from eggs and yogurt to nuts and legumes. Also, foods like bone broth, skin-on chicken, and sardines are good sources of collagen.”

Collagen powder has a simpler ingredient list, while green and red powders have longer ingredient lists and are not as nutritious.

“Like other types of supplements, many green powders are not regulated by the FDA. This can make it difficult to determine how accurate and transparent the label is.” says Ball. “For some people, this may be a way to bridge the gap in vitamin and mineral intake, but I usually prefer a diet-first approach. In addition, food sources of vitamins and minerals (such as vegetables and leafy greens) When you eat it, you get more fiber than you can get from supplements.”
