Indianapolis — Do you have the discipline to eat the exact same thing every day for almost five months?
That’s what Indy trainer Antawan Mack did to secure a win at the NPC Teen, College and Masters National Championships in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
The victory earned Mack, 41, a professional certification from the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness.
“I’m going to be real here. There’s nothing fun about getting ready for a show,” Mack laughed. “Working out is the easiest part. Nutrition is the gold mine.”
It seems that money can also come from perseverance. Mack wrapped up his first local show in 2016, thanks to promoter David Bowers. The show ignited Mack’s dream of becoming a professional bodybuilder. However, Mack lost many times before reaching Master.
“We did three national shows before this show. The first two didn’t go so well. I got pretty exhausted after finishing sixth, so I took a big break,” said Mack. “Tuesday was my fourth national show and I finally got the job done. Those close to me know it means a lot.”
The good news for Indy residents is that Mack is also a trainer at Fit Unlimited, a local gym at 6227 Coffman Road. He knows that working with him will give him world-class fitness results. “The key is to be consistent and just follow the plan,” Mack said.
