The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the world’s largest scientific organization in tropical medicine, has awarded the prestigious 2022 Bailey K. Ashford Medal and the 2022 American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Fellow (FASTMH) Award to an Indian physician-scientist.
Dr. Subash Babu, Scientific Director of the ICER-India Program at the ICMR-National Tuberculosis Institute, Chennai, was presented with the award at the annual ASTMH conference in Seattle, USA on October 30.
According to a press statement issued by ICER, India, the medal is awarded annually to one or more mid-career researchers for outstanding achievements in tropical medicine.
Never before in the 82-year history of the award has it been awarded to an Indian scientist or to a research done in an Indian institution.
In addition to the Bailey K. Ashford Award, Dr. Babu has also won the FASTMH since 1995 for “dedicated work” in tropical medicine.
