ASAE 125 economic enterprises involved in the sale of food supplements were inspected, namely herbalists, “natural food” stores and supermarkets.
These exercises were carried out both in person and online, including through social media, with the aim of verifying compliance with the legal standards applicable to these products intended to complement and/or supplement the diet.
The main violations detected relate to the lack of translation of mandatory information into Portuguese, the marketing of dietary supplements in violation of labelling, presentation and advertising regulations, the absence of prices for the products and the lack of an electronic complaints book.
During the investigation, 150 kilograms of dietary supplements were also seized due to non-compliant labelling, with a total value of approximately €4,150.
ASAE warned that it would “continue its inspection activities throughout the country within its scope of authority to protect food safety and consumer public health and promote sound and fair competition among economic operators.”
