Jamie Lee Curtis believes he wouldn’t be where he is today if powerful drugs like fentanyl were prevalent before he quit drinking.
‘I was an opium addict, so I liked talking about opium’ ‘Halloween’ star told Joe Scarborough on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. Friday.
“If fentanyl was as readily available on the street as it is now, I would be dead.”
Curtis, who has remained innocent for more than 20 years, considers himself “incredibly lucky” not to go to prison years ago.
“My worst days were barely visible to others,” she shared. “I have never been arrested.
“There are women in prison whose lives have been shattered by drugs and alcohol. I’m incredibly lucky that it wasn’t on the road.I was on my way there.”
The 64-year-old Oscar-winning actress also recalled losing her 23-year-old half-brother Nicholas Curtis to heroin in 1994.
“He was clean and sober, but he went out and used it only once and died of an overdose,” she said.
“And he’s one of the millions who have lost their lives because of addiction.”

Jamie has long been open about his abstinence.
In 2021, she posted a photo of herself smiling with an alcoholic drink in her youth.
“A long time ago…in a galaxy far, far away…I was a young star at war with myself,” she wrote at the time. “I didn’t know it then. I chased everything. I kept it hidden. I kept it a secret that I was sick.
“Thanks to God’s grace and the support of many people who can empathize with all the ‘feelings’ and some calm angels…I have been sober for 22 years, one day at a time.
“I was meant to be vulgar and silly, so the rare photo of me proudly drinking at a photo shoot is very helpful to remember. To us… I’ll reach out to you,” she concluded the emotional post.
The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star also spoke candidly about her addiction to painkillers. talk about variety In 2019, a friend saw her washing five Vicodin tablets down with wine.
“The jig is up,” she remembers thinking. “Now I know someone knows. I had a secret Vicodin addiction for a very long time, well over a decade.”
A few months later she attended a recovery meeting and has been sober ever since.
