The 64-year-old from Leicestershire claims the world record for most consecutive Dragon Flag wins. This is an extreme core strength and stamina workout.
Ibstock’s Dave Sansom said he completed 172 repetitions in 10 minutes and 38 seconds and hopes to confirm his accomplishment within two weeks.
In this exercise, Sansom lies on his back and raises his legs vertically, then lowers them.
Sansom said he broke the previous record of 135 with 37 repetitions.
The landscape architect completed the task with his team at Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Center on Sunday morning.
He had hoped to attempt the record in January, but a shoulder injury forced him to postpone.
He said the practice was “really, really hard.”
“It went better than I expected,” he said. “In the end, it was my shoulders that were tired, not my abs.
“Anything over 30 or 40 gets really uncomfortable, but over 100 I felt like I was in the home straight.
“I was worried about what would happen to my stomach, but I managed to eat a full English breakfast shortly afterwards.”
“Let’s stay active”
Mr Sansom said he hoped the challenge would motivate people over 60 to be active.
“Even when you’re 60, 70, 80, you have to stay active,” he said.
“Find whatever you want to do, but do something. Be active, go out and do a little bit.”
The team will now submit the video to Guinness World Records for official review.
