Juventus’ Italian midfielder Nicolo Fagioli is the subject of a new documentary about his gambling addiction and ban, revealing the worst moment he was ‘stuck in the bubble’.
The player went to his club and then to the authorities, confessing that he had been addicted to illegal gambling and began the process of seeking help.
While this meant accepting a suspension, it also triggered widespread investigations into other players, such as Sandro Tonali, who was also suspended.
Now, as Fagioli shares his story and tries to help those in similar positions find solutions, Amazon Prime Italia will be releasing “Fragile – The Story of Nicolo Fagioli” in November. Released on the 26th.
Fagioli opens up about his gambling addiction
Some clips include released to the media There he talks about how he became addicted.
“I started making big bets when I was in the U-23 team. From there I started betting more money than usual,” Fagioli confessed.
“To tell you the truth, I wasn’t even gambling to make money. I didn’t need it. I gambled for the adrenaline it gave me, and that’s the biggest problem. At its worst, I was glued to my phone for 12 to 13 hours and had no idea what was going on.
“I felt like I was trapped in this bubble and not aware of anything outside of it. People would ask me questions and I would answer them, but an hour later, there was nothing. I realized it wasn’t in my head and I don’t even know what they said to me.”
Like Newcastle United midfielder Tonali, Fagioli underwent treatment and is now back in action for both club and Italy.
