I tried Harry Styles’ 20-minute MMA-inspired workout, and it’s one of the hardest celebrity workouts I’ve ever done

I have a high bar to live because I’m called Harry. One Harry is a literal prince, the other is the greatest scorer ever for an English man, and even the fictional wizard does not need an introduction. And then there’s Harry’s Styles – Grammy Award-winning heartbeat.

As Independent Fitness writer, one of the few areas I want to hold candles in my cohort is athletic ability. So when I had the opportunity to chat with a former trainer from Stiles Thibo DavidI wanted to sample some of the style workouts.

Trained style in Executive Peak Performance Advances his love at the 2021 tour show, the pair meet regularly with founder David in 10-20km runs and 2-hour gym sessions. If you want to offer a high energy stadium show, an impressive fitness level is a prerequisite.

Within these brutal gym sessions, Style regularly faced a 20-minute conditioning protocol inspired by the background of MMA. Intrigued, I asked for an example and then headed straight to the gym and tried it out. And it left me on my back.

How to do Harry Styles’ 20 Minute MMA-Inspired Training

Complete 4 rounds:

  • Alternating Arm Kettlebell Clean X30SEC
  • Burpee X30Sec
  • Over the shoulder D-ball or punching bag (30kg style) x 1min
  • Maximum height tuck jump X30SEC
  • Max Effort Skierg X1min
  • Fast Run/Treadmill X30SEC
  • Break x 1min

“For conditioning workouts, you do four minutes or four rounds with minimal time,” says David. “I take it from fighting conditioning. The Fighters do this kind of training to prepare for a five-minute round in MMA. This turns out to be a very good way to build a VO2 Max. [the maximum amount of oxygen your body can take in and use during exercise]. ”

The key to working out is to push and push hard. “Doing that circuit four times is a huge achievement,” adds David.

What happened when I tried out Harry Styles training?

I fall on the ground and flip onto my back. Lead on its legs, the dragon’s breath is fired into the cold, freezing air. My breasts are standing up like tides, and I don’t think there is a single muscle in my body that is not painful in any way. You need to rewind a bit to see how you got caught up in this situation.

I sway into the gym in the freezing cold of Tuesday mornings and give this workout a try. I feel optimistic. I tried a lot He has trained from past celebrities, athletes and even Olympic athletes, and has always survived to tell stories.

After a quick warm-up, I prepared equipment, including a 24kg kettlebell, a 40kg punching bag, a Skierg machine, and an accessible running route, set a 20-minute clock and hit “Start.”

The workout begins

The workout begins with alternating 30-second arm kettlebell cleans. Full body exercise that requires a decent dose of strength, power and adjustment. I start by placing weight on the floor and switching hands, but when the kettlebell moves smoothly I switched to a transition as it drops down from my shoulder. This will make things faster and faster and you will soon find your heart is pounding.

After that, the burpee comes. Burpee will re-recruit my upper and lower body muscles to keep my heart rate high. but CrossFit is my go-to workout style, so I’m not used to this exercise so I’m running through the 10 without much trouble.

Next up the agenda is a one-minute sand band over shoulder bag. This is a very move to do what you say with tin. Stiles usually use a 30kg D-ball (or slam ball) for this, says David, but I only have 40kg punching bags on hand.

“We make a lot of heavy ball throws,” says David. “We grab a 30kg ball off the floor, open our hips, get to the most natural squat position and lift the object, then clean our shoulders, turn around and do it again.”

I usually weave a fair amount of punching bag exercises into my regular workouts, so I’m not too nervous about this part. But 30 seconds later, my quads and upper body were on fire. And the sandbag is venting humility to me.

Fatigue is in progress

From here, I move to a 30-second tuck jump. My rags of feet are burdened to get some height, but each one can feel more and more powerful. I’m forced to take a short break in the middle and then move on to the Skierg machine.

“This is the biggest effort and with the execution,” advises David. However, after accumulating considerable fatigue over the past two and a half minutes, my biggest effort is not impressive. I have challenged to hold a pace of 1,000 calories/hour per hour on a Concept2 machine and have been pretty much successful.

Finally, I move to the door for a 30-second drive and rolop. It’s like walking through a swimming pool filled with custard, but you can cover the ground a bit before the timer sounds.

It’s round one. In a minute, I do it all, and again and again. A glance at my watch suggests that my heart rate has exceeded 170, but this doesn’t happen particularly frequently. This could be a long 20 minutes.

Rinse and repeat

In the next two rounds, I keep pushing just as hard as I do, but I lose a few reps on each exercise. Burpee goes from 10 reps to 8, while the punching bag over shoulder drops from 12 to 9.

For the final circuit, I decide to get back to pace from the first round and try to access the final energy reserve. But that’s not easy.

My muscles feel like they’re being taken away from all their strength. It takes conscious effort to stabilize my breathing, and my Celtic gene means that my face resembles a fully ripe tomato. But I manage it and then allow myself to collapse and recover.

“How was it?” a fellow gym guy laughed. “Fun,” I tell them. “It’s fun and fun, but it’s still fun. Fair Play Harry style.”

Harry Styles Training: Verdict

I like to share athletes and celebrity training for two main reasons. For one thing, I think that’s interesting. Two are fun ways to make movements more attractive. And that’s always a goal. It helps many people find ways to enjoy the movement, allowing for many benefits that come with it.

“Harry [Styles] I have a very playful attitude towards exercise, so it all becomes easier,” David tells me. “I think people probably should accept that a little more. No one will force you to exercise. Training should be fun.”

That being said, this is not for beginners. Workouts are difficult – one of the most challenging celebrity sessions I’ve tried – and exercises like kettlebell clean or punching bag over shoulder require a bit of practice before popping them with high-intensity workouts.

If you’re quite used to fitness and want to give it a try, there’s a way to expand your workout. All exercises are performed for a certain period of time rather than a specified number of people, so you can do it at your own speed and use weights that suit your strength level. While building up the skills and confidence needed to tackle a written workout, you may trade some of the more demanding exercises for other full-body movements that make you feel more comfortable.

Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed my training. I loved the challenge and it provided it with spades.

By centering the session around dynamic compound (multimask) movements performed at high intensity, David maintained my heart rate throughout and replenished muscle throughout my body. Also, rather than polishing one at a time, I tested several aspects of fitness at once, from strength, speed and power to adjustment and agility. And finally, the inclusion of less common training tools such as Kettlebells and Sandbags forced me to move my body in a variety of ways.

So if you’re an experienced gym person looking for a celebrity-inspired fitness challenge, try this and you’ll be golden (sorry).
