Taking care of your mental health is hard work!!
A Reddit user Dependency bit 8333 I asked a question, “What has significantly improved your mental state?” I quickly read all the answers. Here are some of the most voted answers:
1.“Getting out of a toxic work environment”
2.“People underestimate how much of an impact sleep has on your day, your productivity, and your mood. I wish I had realized this when I was a teenager.”
3.“I underestimate the importance of my own thoughts. Most of the human thoughts are nonsense. I question every negative thought, and so far, every one of them has turned out to be bullshit. I’m not kidding. This is a game changer.”
“I came to this practice primarily through reading the works of Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie, both of whom refer to the great spiritual leaders in human history (Jesus, Lao Tzu, Buddha, Ramana Maharshi), and they all point to this idea as the path to ending suffering. There are many contemporary writers (some mentioned here) who point to the same truth.”
Four.“Never trust your feelings about your life after 9pm”
Five.“Have a routine. No matter what your schedule is for the day, if you stick to the routine of getting up, getting dressed, and showering, you’ll feel better.”
6.“Learning to love yourself. A few years ago, I had pretty low self-esteem and wanted to do better. My therapist and I talked a lot about treating yourself like a friend. It may sound corny, but I started writing compliments on Post-it notes and sticking them on my mirror in the morning. It didn’t take long for me to start believing it. It’s amazing how being kind and forgiving to yourself can really improve your mental health.”
7.“When we stop rushing. Rushing is a trauma response, and in our current American culture, we’re so focused on everything happening immediately that it’s easy to lose yourself in rushing.”
8.“Reducing clutter and the overall amount of possessions goes a long way.”
9.“Instead of getting caught up in the past or the future, stay in the present”
Ten.“Being the ‘bad guy’ also means putting yourself first. I’ve been a chronic people-pleaser, which has left me constantly worn down and taken advantage of. It’s inevitable that some people will be disappointed in you, but the question is whether you’re disappointed in yourself. If you’re happy, the right people in your life will be happy. It’s simple, but it took me a long time to realize that.”
11.“Removing toxic people from my life. It’s amazing how much it can improve your mental state just by removing people who only bring negativity into your life.”
12.“The what ifs were eating away at me. I was driving myself crazy thinking about problems that hadn’t happened yet and may never happen. This little quote from Bill Barr taught me a lot: ‘You’re OK. And even if you’re not, isn’t it better to live your life pretending that you are OK? When you’re not, you can deal with it somehow. No point in messing it up now, right?'”
13.“Walking. That’s the real deal.”
14.“Caring for plants and watching them grow gives you a sense of responsibility and purifies the air!”
15.“To create, especially to make something with your own hands.”
16.“Writing!! You never realize how much is rumbling in your head until you pick up pen and put it to paper. I’ve been writing almost every day for almost 10 years, and it’s a very important form of expression for me.”
17.“Let’s go. Outside. Let’s go.”
