Then, in February 2022, she underwent two major cancer prevention surgeries after discovering she carried the BRCA1 gene. As a result of her long and painful recovery, she gained 10 kg, so after 6 months she threw herself into her healthy lifestyle again and in addition she lost 30 kg.

Petite Gemma, who currently weighs 55kg and is a size 8, shared everything she has learned over the past two years and how she stays in shape and nurtures her body while keeping to a busy schedule.
Before Gemma decided to turn her health around, she often skipped breakfast and lunch and relied on coffee to keep her energy up throughout the day.
She was so hungry that she would snack all afternoon, and for dinner she would typically eat a lot of meat, followed by dessert.
“My metabolism wasn't working very well. Previously, when I tried to lose weight, I would cut out food or skip meals,” Gemma told FEMAIL. “It’s unsustainable and the weight will come back.
The petite Gemma, who currently weighs 55kg and is a size 8, talks about everything she has learned over the past two years and how she stays in shape despite her busy schedule.
“Now I eat what I want because it makes me feel good about my body and how I feel. The things I consider treats these days are things I would never eat before. My diet is also It's 80 percent plant-based and I feel better than ever.”
Gemma eats lots of whole foods, high protein dishes, whole grains and high fiber foods at every meal.
“My skin looks more youthful, I feel healthier, I'm happier, and my gut and metabolic health has improved. I have more energy and my metabolism is always firing up, so I wake up more excited. I try not to drink coffee until late in the morning so I can eat right away and get energy from delicious food instead of caffeine.”
It's because of her eating habits.
“I'm a full-time single parent of four kids, so I'm very busy and have a lot to do, but I've learned to prioritize being active. It keeps me mentally and physically fit. “It can also make you healthier and a better parent,” said Gemma.
Gemma swims for 30 minutes two to three times a week. On average she swims 60 laps (1.5 km).
When she first started swimming 12 months ago, she could only do 30 laps in a session, but in June she was up to 50 laps and in October she was up to 60 laps.
“I also do gymnastics and calisthenics at home. I train my core and lower body using Roman rings and trapeze, and I teach myself core and upper body using funky monkey bars and ninja combat ladders,” says Gemma. said.

For a more traditional approach, Gemma likes to do training sets at home, learning Pilates and core exercises on the Healthy Mummy app, which she streams on her TV.
“I walk regularly, run when I want to work up a sweat (I can run 2.6km in 15 minutes), and dance. I'm a former Zumba instructor, so I have a million routines in my head. I just put on some music and I’m good to go,” she said.
A doting mother always chooses the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator, and instead of watching her children from a distance, she always plays outside.
“If we're at the park or at home, we go on the swings together or go on the trampoline,” she said.
“My kids love the new me and I'm more active, more fun, and so much happier. I want them to be more active, eat healthier, and be healthier. It inspired and motivated them to make meaningful choices.”
