An Australian fitness coach reveals the exercises he absolutely needs to stay healthy.
Belinda Norton, from the Gold Coast, says running offers “greater health and biomechanical benefits” than any other form of exercise – and it’s free.
The 47-year-old health and fitness education specialist and certified trainer says there are a number of reasons why adults stop running, including mindset, discomfort and self-esteem.
However, she stressed that this form of aerobic exercise should not be neglected and encouraged people to run regularly.
“Did you know that running is a survival mechanism for your body? It’s normal, but as humans evolved it became a choice,” she wrote on Instagram.
“This is a disservice to humanity. From the time a child begins to walk, they run, even though it is unsteady. So why do adults stop running? It’s a mindset problem. It’s discomfort. It’s an ego problem.”
“I want you to live longer. I want you to be agile. I want you to realize your capabilities. I want you to learn how to run again. Today is the day. Let’s get started! Lives depend on it.”
Belinda also revealed the nine foods she eats every day to stay healthy and toned.

Before exercising, it’s important to warm up your lower body with a variety of running drills that focus on the legs, feet, calves, shins, thighs and hips, which Belinda demonstrated in an Instagram video.
For example, do high knees, side shuffles, A skips, B skips, bounds, backward walks, and strides for 30 seconds each.
This super fit mum has gained a following on social media by sharing her health tips.
She said last year that she likes to eat foods “grown from the soil and the sea”, such as salmon, carrots, brown rice and broccoli.
She also extends this philosophy to her own children, making sure their breakfast, lunch and dinner include plenty of health-promoting “real, whole foods.”

“Did you know that soil grown and seawater foods have more mineral content than any other food?” Belinda posted on Instagram.
The nine foods to include in your diet are fish, whole carrots, homemade muesli, oranges, avocado, leafy greens, salads, broccoli, brown rice and quinoa.
Belinda also eats one raw carrot and two cucumbers every day.
When she eats it, she doesn’t peel or cut it, she washes it and eats it whole.
“Wholesome, organic, land-grown foods provide our bodies with nutrients and minerals that can’t be found in other products,” Belinda says.
“It’s inexpensive, encourages chewing, and comes in just the right amount for nutrition and sustained energy.”
Belinda adds that the fibre in carrots helps to keep blood sugar levels in check, and eating cucumbers keeps the body hydrated, leading to health benefits such as “weight loss, fluid balance, digestive regularity and lower blood sugar levels”.
