This is the moment a gym-goer was temporarily blinded and paralyzed when a weight machine appeared to brake during a set.
Horrifying CCTV footage has revealed that Abraham Viana’s head was crushed between a metal handle while he was exercising.
In the video, the 32-year-old athlete was performing a 110-pound chest throw flight at a gym near Fortaleza, Brazil, on September 18 when the machine allegedly malfunctioned.
Suddenly, the handle of the machine tightened around his temple.
Footage shows the clerk holding his head in his hands in extreme pain before falling to the floor, disoriented.
Abraham recalled: “The impact was so strong that at that moment I couldn’t see anything anymore.
“I think I went crazy at the time. My eyes were so bloody I couldn’t open them. The cut was on the right side of my forehead.”
The part-time influencer explained that she was carried into the arms of her manager and instructor and rushed to the hospital’s emergency ward.
“I couldn’t even breathe because of the pain and I couldn’t even open my eyes because of the amount of blood that was flowing.
“I arrived at the emergency room in a wheelchair. I couldn’t even walk properly.”
After the treatment, Abraham said: “I was examined and there were no injuries or anything. I didn’t need any stitches.”
Fortunately, the impact did not cause any permanent damage to him.
After being discharged from the hospital early the next morning, he rested at home for a week, taking painkillers.
Mr Abraham, who has around 20,000 followers across social media platforms, said the gym provided him with support and paid for his treatment.
He told local media: It was an incident. It happens. ”
Last week, he returned to the gym and also worked out on his restored pectoral deck.
“I went to do the same training, but the cables had already been replaced,” he said.
“But after receiving a 50kg blow to the head, I came home a little scared.”
In a statement, the gym said there was no defect in the machine, just a “cable break”, adding that it was “common for machines with steel cables”.
The incident comes after a popular bodybuilder died after a 460-pound weight fell on his neck in a “freak accident” inside a gym.
In July, fitness influencer Justin Vicki, 33, slipped under the weight of a heavy bar while strength training.
