“Severely dangerous substances” associated with at least one sudden death in Northeast Avalon are circulating in the community, and naloxone does not counteract its effects.
The substance in question is Bromazolam (Benzodiazepine), a very concern for law enforcement agencies, and the RNC issued a warning to the public this week.
Health Canada has confirmed the presence of the substance that was being handed over as Xanax. Bromazolam is not approved for medical use in any country and can have serious adverse effects, including death.
RNC Officer James Cadigan said the biggest concern is when a drug, also known as benzo, is used along with opioids, a practice known as benzo dope.
He says that naloxone, which is used to counter the effects of opioids, is ineffective if a person is suffering from an overdose from a benzodiazepine.
And that’s why law enforcement is trying to convey its message. For people using illegal drugs, it is important to check their strength by starting with a small dose and pacing yourself. Do not use alone. If you are using it alone, unlock the door and ask someone you trust to check it out.
According to the bottom line, it is difficult to know for sure what Cadigans are getting in illegal markets.
