Police issued an urgent alert today after “potent” drugs were stolen when a pharmacy delivery driver was attacked. Turned on,” he dropped the keys to the van.

Police have publicly appealed, calling the incident “opportunistic and violent.” It’s unclear if the man was seriously injured and no further details have been released. The attack occurred on his drive to Newville in Withington, south of Manchester, around 2pm on Monday.
GMP said in a statement: “Today (Monday, March 13, 2023), at approximately 2:00 pm, police officers were summoned to Newville Drive in Withington, a pharmacy delivery driver was attacked, and his van keys were stolen. Reported stolen.
“A young white man reportedly punched the driver in the face with his elbow and dropped his keys, whereupon the young man picked them up and drove the van away.
“The vehicle was a white Citroen van, registration number WJ63 WOY, and contained approximately £500 worth of medicines.”
PC Marc Bennion has urged anyone who wants to sell the drug to come forward. The drug or its packaging were not further described.
He said: “This was an opportunistic and violent theft that resulted in the theft of a powerful drug. Please let me know. Failure to prescribe it can have serious and lasting consequences.
“We want to ensure the safety of people locally and in the surrounding area, so we encourage anyone who has been contacted or has information to contact GMP via 101, citing the log number. 1852 on 13 03 2023.
“Information can also be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers, an independent charity on 0800 555 111.”
