Chrissy Teigen opens up about her fitness routine and why her relationship with food is healthier than ever.

The 38-year-old has a lot on her plate these days. Teigen and her husband, John Legend, share four children: Luna, 7, Miles, 5, Ren, 1, and 17-month-old Estee. Earlier this year, she also posed for the 2024 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Ten A few years after the first cover.

Teigen says she still finds time to exercise and stay in shape between her work and parenting responsibilities, but she always tries to maintain a balance. She recently partnered with Metro by T-Mobile to #NadaYadaConfessions Sweepstakes“I’m not a big fan of the ‘workout’ genre,” she told TODAY.com in an interview, where the model and cookbook author revealed her favorite workouts and how she balances her cravings for healthy food with her desire for delicious food.

Exercising with a friend makes a big difference

Teigen told TODAY.com that she does Pilates regularly, but her favorite part of the workout is doing it with friends.

“I have regular appointments in L.A., so I go with all my girlfriends in the morning,” says Teigen, whose favorite class is reformer Pilates, a type of low-impact, full-body workout that uses specialized machines and focuses on repetitive movements.

“I love Pilates because it feels long and I feel like I’m really hitting the muscles I need,” says Teigen, who is also a mother and model and says she prefers working out with friends rather than alone.

“I love music, I love being with my friends, and I love the feeling of being sore after,” Teigen says. In addition to Pilates, Teigen also does yoga. “I’m not a boot camp kind of girl, and I’m not into any hardcore stuff,” she adds.

She fits in workouts when she can.

Teigen, a mother of four kids under the age of 7, says it’s “incredibly hard” to carve out time for herself. “I work out when I can, and I try to do two to three times a week, but even if I can just do once a week, I consider that a success,” she says.

But Teigen says her kids are a big part of her active lifestyle and keep her on the go. “I think having a lot of kids naturally makes you a very active person,” Teigen says.

Teigen, author of “Cravings,” said her kids love swimming and that she spends a lot of time with them at the pool. “I spend time with my son on the baseball field, I’m a Girl Scout mom, I go on hikes, and that’s all good for keeping me physically active,” she said.

Teigen says her 17-month-old daughter, Estée, is “fully mobile” these days. “She’s always running around, running around with dogs and cats, which means I’m running around chasing dogs and cats and Estée,” she says.

“Wren is still like a little bug, just standing there right now,” said Teigen, who celebrated Wren’s first birthday on June 19.

She found balance in food

Teigen love She has a passion for good food and has published three cookbooks, including the best-selling “Cravings” in 2016.

Eight years after it first hit store shelves, Teigen says her philosophy for Cravings hasn’t changed: “I’m very craving-driven, so if I want to eat something, I want to eat it exactly that way,” says Teigen, ordering spaghetti and meatballs for lunch at the start of our interview.

But she says her eating habits have changed over the years. “My body has changed since I made my first cookbook, and so have my body-healthy habits and foods,” Teigen says. She loves to cook at home and focuses on eating as many natural and fresh foods as possible.

“Of course, I still overeat sometimes — if something big comes up, I might cut back — but I always try to keep a really good balance when it comes to food,” Teigen says.

Teigen, 38, says she hasn’t always had a healthy relationship with food, reflecting on the impact that early 2000s diet culture had on her growing up. “I don’t live in a carb-scared world anymore, but there was that diet culture in my household,” she says.

“When I was growing up, the Atkins diet was really big, my dad was always into it, and my mom was always on this crazy workout machine,” Teigen says. “There was always talk about food and dieting.”

Over the years, Teigen has re-learned to love food, and as a parent, she says she encourages her kids to have a healthy, balanced relationship with food, too.

“Now that I have kids, I try not to talk negatively about food. Food can be positive and fun and you can indulge in it to the fullest sometimes,” Teigen said. “My kids have happy meals sometimes.”

“Most of our week is based around fresh, clean ingredients, but it’s really important to me to balance that with really enjoying life,” Teigen says.
