Raleigh, North Carolina (WTVD) – The new center in southeast Raleigh targets the needs of underserved residents.
WakeMed medical expert Nerissa Price, M.D., said:
Inside, there is a Zen ambiance and photographs of local Raleigh sites intentionally placed to establish a relaxing environment.
For Dr. Price, this mission is personal. Because she grew up in this community and knows firsthand what people need.
“They are disproportionately black and brown. They may have mental health as well as physical health. I hope you come to,” she said.
There is a clinical space with an examination room right next to the treatment space. According to medical experts, this community health, innovation and equity center takes a holistic approach by addressing the mental and physical health of its patients for long-term success.
Dr. Annie Pugh hopes to help tackle stigma and prejudice in medicine where trust can be built.
“Our patients have traditionally not seen a doctor in years, and some of us find it difficult to see a doctor because of previous experiences,” Dr. Pugh said.
WakeMed experts say the idea was created over a year, but now aims to address longstanding health inequalities and serve more than 500 people a year. It has become a reality.
