Harris to lead AHCA. Hatch takes over at DCF

On Tuesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that Shevaun Harris, who has been leading the Florida children and family division since 2021, will become the secretary of the health care administration agency.

He also announced that Taylor Hatch, who has been leading the agency for people with disabilities since 2023, will take over Harris as secretary to children and families.

Before leading the DCF, Harris spent nearly 20 years at the AHCA, taking on several roles, including acting secretary. Most of her tenure focused on managing Florida’s Medicaid program.

Hatch previously worked as a deputy secretary at DCF. Desantis did not announce who would replace the hatch at an agency for people with disabilities.

The appointment replaced James Usmier, now Florida Attorney General, after DeSantis was named former ACHA secretary Jason Wida last month and served as his chief of staff.

“Both Harris and Hatch have done an incredible job of serving the people of Florida in their respective roles. I know that each contributes significantly to their new positions,” Desantis said in a post on X.
