The operator of a health club that was forced to close last week due to the medical emergency issued a statement.
Marshside Health Club, on Slideburn Crescent, Southport, had to close with immediate effect shortly before 5pm on June 5 in response to a medical emergency.
A rescue helicopter was seen hovering over nearby Marshside Primary School and landing in a garden near the gymnasium, which remained closed on 6 June “out of respect for those involved”, before reopening on 7 June.

Gym owner Paul Hibbot released a statement on the company’s Facebook page on the evening of June 6th.
Paul said: “Hello, this is Paul from Marshside Health Club. As you all know we are closed today due to a medical emergency that occurred in our cardio room yesterday afternoon. We felt that we needed to address the situation as a club before we reopen.”
“Firstly, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends at this difficult time. Our thoughts are truly with them. How do we respect the privacy of those affected? My staff will not be commenting further on this matter.”
“I would personally like to thank our fantastic response team and air ambulance team for this incident, I cannot thank them enough, and in particular the two members who quickly alerted reception staff to the situation.”
“I would like to personally thank all of our staff for all their hard work and commitment during these difficult times. You are all doing a fantastic job and I am so proud that you are all part of Marshside Health Club. Thank you everyone.”
He added: “Please refrain from questioning staff about the incident.”
“Finally, I would like to thank our members for their support and understanding during this difficult time for Marshside Health Club and my staff. Thank you.”
In response to the statement, many people sent messages of support for the club and for those affected by the medical emergency.
One commenter said: “Well said Paul, we all know how hard it is for your staff. Let’s pull together as a team and get through this together.”
Another said: “Paul, we are all rooting for you and your staff. Whatever happened, the pain of the trauma is visible on your faces. God bless you all.”
Another added: “Paul I know exactly how you feel, the pain is apparent in every word you say. My heart goes out to your family, you and your staff and the members who were there.”
