Dr. Sarah Andravian assistant professor of emergency medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, graduated from Debekey High School of Health in 2004. 50th anniversary.
Q: How has attending DeBakey High School for Health Professions affected your career?
answer: DeBakey High School was a great experience for me. I have always been interested in health science, but this was my first exposure to the myriad of jobs in the health field. I was able to talk and shadow individuals from all walks of life, including dentists, nurses, lab technicians, and doctors, just to name a few. I will always be grateful and privileged to have had the opportunity to do so so early in my education. The teachers and mentors at the school helped me have the best high school experience.
Q: What is DeBakey’s fondest memory from school?
a: My best memories are all the wonderful students, teachers and administrators I have met. The teachers and administrators genuinely care about their students and want to see us do well.At DeBakey I met her close friends, including her husband of 12 years. The class of 2004 is the best class and I keep in touch with many of my classmates.
Q: What did you learn at DeBakey that you didn’t learn at other high schools?
a: I liked going to a school with diversity. I was able to meet people from all backgrounds.
Q: Do you have any advice for classes in 2023 and beyond?
a: Enter high school with an open mind. Take advantage of the variety of classes and electives offered to you. I’m looking forward to this time too! it will never come back.
Q: Did attending medical school help you in other areas of your life?
a: I went to a medical school and was held to very high standards. In that sense, it was just like a university preparatory school. I feel that my transition to undergraduate education was smooth thanks to my experience at HSHP.
Congratulations to DeBakey High School. happy 50th anniversaryth anniversary!
