Group looks to promote mental, physical health for moms through walking

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — Starting in 2023, a group of local mothers are prioritizing their mental and physical health by taking weekly group walks with other mothers in a local park .

Bakersfield mom Moe Boyd says she joined Mama Walk Collective When she couldn’t find another mom group in Bakersfield.

“It really helps when someone is like, ‘I know it sucks, and it does.

After returning to Bakersfield from the Bay Area, Caitlin Sanseri says she wanted to meet people who were in the same stage of life as her, so she decided to co-organize a local group.

“We went through quite a journey conceiving this little boy. We went through numerous IVF cycles and suffered multiple losses along the way to conceiving him. I found a lot of comfort in the community when I was younger.

Sunseri told 23ABC that she dealt with postpartum anxiety after her son’s birth, saying she’s been able to overcome her feelings of loneliness by interacting with other mothers by sharing birth traumas, birth stories, and even nap schedules. He said he was able to calm down.

“Getting out is more important than anything else for mental health. I think physical activity is a great side effect,” Sanseri explained. Get out more and build your community in the new year. “

The Mom Walk Collective started in Orange County. After co-founder Jamie Easton posted a video of him going viral on his TikTok, asking other moms to meet for a walk and coffee after battling postpartum depression.

And Boyd is ringing in the new year, saying the group will help her get in shape after giving birth.

“Exercise is completely different after having a baby. Walking is great, especially with young children and getting some fresh air. Get in better shape, kids.

The group walks approximately 1 mile or 1 hour each week. The meeting time changes weekly to accommodate those who want to attend.

“We build and grow our friendship, and we really want that community and friendship to grow not only for us, but for our children. But I hope in a few years we’ll be hanging out on the playground together,” Boyd added.
