Visiting your chiropractor often can have great benefits. However, most people don’t realize that you can also work on animals. That’s true! Dr. Jolene Whitley of Edmond, Oklahoma, shared a recent chiropractic session with an animal that perhaps desperately needed it: a giraffe.
Whitley works with a lot of animals, and the animals’ reactions to the adjustments were incredibly gentle.
Giraffes have long necks, so it’s no surprise that things sometimes slip out of place. Standing on a platform higher than the ground, whitley I slowly manipulated the giraffe’s neck until it finally cracked. If you’re wondering whether giraffes like chiropractors, the answer is a resounding “yes.” The animal definitely appeared to be unconscious, its ears began to wiggle, and then it returned to Whitley for a grateful snot. The big man was clearly very grateful.

How to become an animal chiropractor

Education plays a big role in becoming an animal chiropractor. First, you need to find a program that is approved by the Education Committee of the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA). You will then take an AVCA-approved exit exam. After completing the exam, you will need to fill out an application to take the ACCC written and clinical exams. You can take the written test first and then the practical test. Passing both of these exams ensures that you are in a good position to be approved by your state’s licensing protocols. You must obtain a license to work with animals. Passing the exam will also earn him a three-year certification from the ACCC/AVCA, based on meeting all ACCC/AVCA requirements. Thereafter, certification must be renewed every three years.
This process may seem long and difficult, but with a little dedication, you can definitely get through it. After all, your patient could become like the giraffe in the video, and everything will be very worthwhile.
