COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A former Ohio football player was honored Friday at the annual Art of Recovery art auction.
Harry Miller received this year’s Recovery Award, which recognizes community members who promote recovery and end stigma around mental health.
Miller gained national attention after announcing that he was medically retire from football We focused on his mental health in March.
The event, held at the Columbus Museum of Art, also featured more than 90 original works by local artists seeking recovery from mental illness and substance use disorders.
Miller is honored to be a part of this event, hear everyone’s individual stories, and see their expression through art.
“I think the powerful thing about sharing your stories and sharing your experiences is that you realize you’re not the only one with these experiences,” Miller said. This is how I receive this award and again, I am very grateful. ”
Proceeds from Friday’s auction will go to Southeast HealthCare’s Fresh AIR gallery, which features the work of artists in recovery.
