Alan Milburn has been appointed Lead Non-Executive Member of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Board of Directors.
The former health secretary has a track record of reducing NHS waiting lists and improving satisfaction levels.
The NHS is broken and it is the job of this Government to fix it and make our health service fit for the future. Department Board members provide independent advice and expertise to inform the department’s strategy, performance and governance, and the lead non-executive member provides additional support to the Secretary of State for Health and Human Services in his role as Board Chair. Provide support.

I have worked in health policy for 30 years and have never seen the NHS in such dire straits. Major reforms will be needed to make it fit for the future.

Due to the requirements of the role and his unique expertise and experience, Alan Milburn was appointed directly by the Secretary of State in consultation with the Secretary of State for Public Appointments and in accordance with the Governance Code for Public Appointments.
