Fitness Influencer-Turned-Nutritionist Now Enjoys Her Favorite Foods

  • In 2018, Madalyn Giorgetta was a fitness influencer with 1 million followers.
  • Although she seemed healthy online, in real life she struggled to eat nutritious food.
  • After training as a nutritionist, she found a way to add even more nutrients to the foods she loves.

In 2018, Madalyn Giorgetta was an influencer with 1 million followers on social media, an ambassador for the clothing brand Gymshark, and the owner of a fitness empire. She embodies the ideals of curvaceous, muscular, and beauty in the late 2010s, and her bikini photo shared on Instagram garnered 60,000 likes.

She looked the part of a “fitness girl” who prepares meals with “clean” foods. But behind the scenes, she struggled with both nutrition and body image.

“Before I started fitness, I didn’t really look at my body. My body was my body. But since I started looking in the mirror all the time and taking pictures, I realized that everything… “I became obsessed with it,” Giorgetta, a 35-year-old Melbourne-based man, told Business Insider.

After reaching a breaking point in 2019, Giorgetta reevaluated her content and realized that it was unconsciously glorifying thinness. “It was clear that I was telling people that their bodies aren’t good enough and they need to change,” she says.

Giorgetta took two big steps. She overhauled her social media accounts to promote anti-diet culture messages, completed a Bachelor of Nutrition in 2023 and registered with the Australian Institute of Nutrition. She sees clients one-on-one remotely and shares nutritional educational content on Instagram.

“Even though I don’t make nearly the same income, it feels good to not have to sacrifice my values. I used to feel like I had to really convince myself or not have any doubts at all. “I feel that way now,” she said. .

Giorgetta shared her diet when she was a fitness influencer and how she eats now.

When Giorgetta was a fitness influencer, she didn’t focus on eating a balanced diet.

Giorgetta was a “light meal”

Despite being careful about her health, Giorgetta revealed that at the peak of her career as a fitness influencer, she ate very little nutritious food and didn’t eat enough for her training program. There wasn’t, he said. Typically, she would do 45 to 60 minutes of strength training four times a week.

She described her eating style as “thoughtless”, with minimal structure and little emphasis on nutrition. “I would often grab something right out of the fridge and prefer something simple, like cheese on toast,” she said.

She used to promote a lifestyle of eating more calories and more nutritious food online, but most of the time she struggled to eat that way herself. As a result, she often felt tired and lacked energy.

On an average day, she ate:

  • Post-workout: Protein shake with milk, peanut butter, and banana
  • Breakfast: Buttered toast with jam and honey
  • Lunch: Light snacks such as cheese and crackers
  • Dinner: whatever my husband made, usually a Hello Fresh meal or cheese toast
  • Dessert: ice cream

She adds nutrition to her favorite meals and snacks

Giorgetta is drawn to simple foods, but adds additional elements, such as salads, to make her meals more nutritious.

Since training as a nutritionist, Giorgetta has made it a priority to eat a more balanced diet, but it’s not “perfect.”

She said she follows a strategy to ensure she gets enough nutrients throughout the day, while being mindful of her natural eating habits and preferences. She doesn’t follow any special eating plan.

“I’m often drawn to simple foods like toast with a spread, but now I’m trying to implement small changes that don’t overwhelm me,” she said.

She eats a good breakfast, has nutritious snacks, and adds protein and fiber to her meals. “Instead of toast with jam, I’ll have toast with eggs. Instead of plain cheese toast, I’ll add a salad,” she said.

Giorgetta does strength training three to four times a week, but also runs once or twice a week. She refuels her body depending on the workout she is performing. For example, eat a carbohydrate-rich meal or snack before your run.

On an average day, she currently eats:

  • Breakfast or post-workout: Buttered whole grain toast with cheesy scrambled eggs and avocado.
  • Snack: Cucumber and tzatziki dip
  • Lunch: Salad sandwich with shredded cheese, lettuce, avocado, red onion, grated carrot, and garlic aioli.
  • Snack: Greek yogurt, canned peaches, honey
  • Dinner: Tofu curry with lots of vegetables (corn, cauliflower, peas) and rice.
  • Dessert: Ice cream or homemade baked goods
