“Brian and I do a lot of cardio and weight training. We eat healthy and stay as fit as possible. We have three young children, so we don’t let them get the better of us. I have to stay in shape so I don’t have to,” Jesse said with a laugh.
“I’ve lived in Goulet all my life. This community needs something like this and we’ve been waiting for years. For people to come in and improve themselves and improve themselves. It makes us happy. There’s never been a gym here. All of our members are excited about this,” she added.
The facility is staffed Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the possibility of extending these hours in the future. Members can access the center 24/7 using their membership key fob.
“The shift workers love it,” Jesse said.
“We see consistent member usage in the early morning hours from 4 to 6 a.m. and overnight from 7 to 9 p.m.,” Brian said.
The gym offers memberships, with over 30 members so far, as well as fitness classes and personal training.
Goulay River Fitness Center has professional instructors in what Brian describes as a “non-judgmental, supportive atmosphere and an upbeat, inspiring facility.”
Brian is a fitness enthusiast and has worked with a variety of trainers over the years. As a registered nurse and former firefighter, he is passionate about community health.
Jesse has had a lifelong passion for sports, is an experienced cheerleading and dance coach, and also enjoys the physically demanding CrossFit, which combines athletic activities such as weightlifting, gymnastics, running, and rope climbing. .
The 2,500 square foot fitness facility features equipment such as treadmills, rowing machines, and strength training equipment. The Dixon family originally planned to open Goulay River Fitness Center in 2021.
“Life has different plans, and at that point our place became a failure,” Brian said.
