Located in the Gold Country and High Sierra Mountain region, the county has seen the highest increase in anxiety levels in the entire state, increasing 7 percent over the past five years. Stress increased by 5% in 26 counties across the state.
Anxiety levels increased at the same rate in Amador, Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Humboldt, Inyo, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Modoc, Mono, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Pumas, Sacramento, San Luis Obispo, Siskiyo, Stanislaus, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne, Ventura and Yolo counties.
What counties in California were less stressed?

“The reasons for the differing levels of anxiety across California counties are complex and multifaceted,” Anand Mehta, executive director of Mission for Michael in San Diego County, said in an email. “Several factors may be contributing to these trends, including economic uncertainty, limited access to mental health resources, and the lingering effects of the extreme weather events that have affected much of the state.”

Nationally, California saw its anxiety levels rise by 5 percent, putting it 27th on the national list of most stressed states. Louisiana came in first with a 7 percent increase.
