The final countdown to the opening of a new £20m health and fitness club is underway as some of our first members enjoyed an exclusive preview this morning.
Suffolk News took David Lloyd on tour bury st edmunds It took place at the facility, off Sandlands Drive in Marham Park, before the club officially opened to all members on Tuesday, December 3.
Among the first 200 members to secure membership was Mayor Diane Hynde, who cut the ribbon and officiated at the club’s launch.
Also in attendance at the event was site general manager Kristen Westwood, who held the same role at David Lloyd Fulham and was appointed to her new role in August.
He said: “We are all very excited to be joining the community.
“Bury is a really nice town and there are no clubs in the area so this was a great location.
“The support has been fantastic and it’s great to see so many members of the local community embrace our new club and join us here today.
“I’m honored to serve as general manager and can’t wait to officially open on Tuesday and watch the community grow.”
The new venue features state-of-the-art facilities including three padel courts, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa and a fully equipped gym.
The Berry Club is the only venue in Suffolk with a spa, and the town is the second club in the county to host one, along with the club in Ipswich.
The first floor features a gym with over 100 machines, a yoga, circuit and group exercise studio, and a lounge area with food and beverages on the ground floor.
You can enjoy a variety of exercise classes, including one where parents and children over the age of 8 can exercise together.
In addition to health and fitness facilities, the club has an outdoor terrace, an indoor soft play area for young children and an adults-only business lounge.
The property is spread over 5 acres and has an internal floor area of over 64,000 square meters.
As of August, the David Lloyd Group had more than 773,000 members and annual revenue of £756m.
The group operates across the UK and Europe and the Bury location will be the company’s 134th club.

Planning permission for the leisure center will be granted in July 2023, with construction to begin at the end of the same year.
The new facility created 75 jobs.
