Sen. John Fetterman revealed Tuesday in a work written in the New York Times that he was using the popular weight loss pill, Munjaro.
He writes that the drug helped him “feel like himself again” and that’s what he wants from all Americans.
That’s why he got the opportunity and spoke up.
“The Trump administration would have recently made the rules proposed by President Joe Biden easier for 7.4 million Americans to buy an anti-range drug called GLP-1,” he said. ” Fetterman wrote. “This was a mistake.”
Fetterman revealed that he has not received the money for his opinion, and wrote that he believes drugs like Moonjaro, Ozempic and Wegovi are “game changers.”
He revealed that Munjaro had been prescribed in July.
“As a stroke survivor, I was interested in research that shows that it can significantly reduce the risk of major cardiac events,” he writes. “Mounjaro is a version that has been used to treat type 2 diabetes and has recently been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for weight loss.”
Fetterman began taking medication for heart health, but he added, “I was hit with how well I felt all along.”
“It had a huge impact on my overall health,” he writes. “The pain, pain, stiffness has disappeared. Physically, I feel younger and more clear and optimistic. I’ve lost about 20 pounds when it comes to side effects.”
Fetterman added: “Millions of Americans are experiencing similar life-changing benefits.” He said these drugs could cost as much as $1,000 a month without insurance coverage.
“Medicare only covers these medications under certain circumstances, such as diabetes and increased heart risk,” he writes. “And Medicaid compensation is further limited.”
Fetterman wrote that Biden tried to change that in November with a new rule that “substantially increased access to this type of drug.”
“The rules expanded the coverage of an estimated 3.4 million Americans using Medicare and an additional 4 million people, reducing out-of-pocket costs by up to 96%,” Fetterman wrote.
Fetterman argued that doing so would improve Americans’ quality of life, while also acknowledging that some people would say it would increase Medicare spending.
“Medicare has the power to negotiate for a better deal,” he writes. “And the reality is that chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease cost more than $1 trillion a year to the US economy.”
Fetterman acknowledged that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. agreed that healthy diet should be a priority and that proper nutrition is important. However, Fetterman said, “Drug therapy can be an important first step in getting adequate control of your health in order to begin to cause meaningful lifestyle changes.”
So Fetterman argued that Biden’s rules are “good policy” and that Trump and Kennedy “we need real tools like this if they’re really committed to making America healthy again.”
Fetterman then pointed out his willingness to reach across the aisle, and last asked Trump and Kenny to “reverse the course and introduce this rule.”
