CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The Food and Drug Administration has filed a recall application for a popular brand of gluten-free tortilla strips due to possible gluten contamination.

FDA recalled It’s unclear how many bags of Santa Fe-style tortilla strips from the Fresh Gourmet brand, best known for its condiments, were included.

The brand’s manufacturer, Sugar Foods, received a call from a customer on November 19 stating that some bags of Fresh Gourmet Santa Fe Tortilla Strips contained Fresh Gourmet Crispy Onions instead of the expected product. Ta. That mistake alone is worrying, but the big problem is that Fresh Gourmet’s Crispy Onion products contain wheat, which contains gluten. Santa Fe Tortilla Strips are advertised as gluten-free.

The FDA was forced to recall Santa Fe Tortilla Strips because there was no wheat allergen label on the bags (although Crispy Onions packaging does).

The specific products affected are: Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips Santa Fe Style, 3.5 oz Pouch, UPC Code: 7 87359 17504 6, Best Before Date June 20, 2025.

The bags were distributed from September 30th to November 11th and were sent to 22 states, including Ohio and Indiana.

The FDA said customers who purchased the product can return it to the place of purchase for a refund, but must otherwise discard the product.

The agency stressed that if people with gluten intolerance or wheat allergies consume this product, they may experience a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.
