El Paso, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) – The FBI has raised concerns in this community conversation about scams related to common weight loss drugs, such as Ozempic and Wegovy.
Jeanette Harper, a special agent at the FBI’s El Paso Office, highlighted the issue by noting the growing popularity of these drugs.
“I’ve seen these weight loss pills become popular,” Harper said. However, as demand increased, there was also a surge in fraud related to them. ”
The FBI has observed healthcare professionals offering these drugs in several states, and warned Harper is a red flag for consumers.
“There are individuals who are not allowed to sell fake online or to prescribe these drugs,” Harper said.
To protect herself, Harper advised individuals to be cautious and to verify the validity of the sources taking these medications.
“If you see low prices on these drugs, you should investigate. You only need to go to a verified website,” Harper said.
If anyone becomes a victim of such a fraud, Harper recommended that they report the incident to the authorities, the FBI and FBI, to prevent further fraud.
