Exercise in the morning or evening to ‘cut risk of bowel cancer’

Research shows that being more active in the morning and evening can reduce your risk of colon cancer by 11%.

Experts say studying when exercise is “most beneficial” could pave the way for more targeted cancer prevention strategies.

Using data from the UK Biobank, a team from the University of Regensburg in Germany evaluated 86,252 people between the ages of 42 and 79 who tracked their physical activity using devices called accelerometers.

During the 5.3-year follow-up period, 529 cases of colorectal cancer occurred.

The researchers categorized the activities into four activity patterns. Activities late in the day. Morning and evening activities. and day and night activities.

Lead researcher Professor Michael Wrightsman said: “Our study highlights that not only is physical activity important for reducing colorectal cancer risk, but the timing of peak activity throughout the day may play an important role. I am.”

Dr Helen Crocker, assistant director for research and policy at the World Cancer Research Fund, which funded the study, said:

“These exciting new findings offer the potential to develop more specific recommendations, such as patterns and timing of physical activity, to reduce cancer risk.”
