Social security in Mexico is a fundamental right. This ensures access to medical care, medical assistance, livelihood protection and social services necessary for personal well-being.
Social security consists of two systems: compulsory and voluntary. Compulsory regimes are compulsory and apply to formal employees (and various public sectors) and their families. This system, outlined in the Social Security Act, includes five types of insurance:
- Labor risks.
- illness and childbirth.
- disability and life.
- Retirement allowance, retirement allowance, elderly benefit.
- Nursery schools and other social services.
Labor risk insurance is fully covered by the employer. Provides financial and in-kind benefits for worker incapacity or death due to work risks. Benefits are divided into two categories:
- Workplace accidents include bodily injury, disability (immediate or subsequent), or death that occurs suddenly during or as a result of work. This applies regardless of where or when the accident occurs, such as while traveling between home and work.

Employers must determine the premiums they will pay for labor risk insurance when they first obtain employer registration with the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS). To do this, it is necessary to identify the main business activity in the catalog provided by the Social Security Regulation and determine the corresponding premium class to be paid as insurance premiums.
As a general rule, once the premium for the entire calendar year has been estimated, the employer must submit an accident rate report each year by the end of February of the following year in order to determine the premium for the following year. yeah.
