Pinellas County lawmakers launched an investigation on May 24, 2023, following reports that an employee allegedly punched a vulnerable adult resident at Palm Harbor’s Orchid Cove. The incident was brought to the attention of law enforcement by the facility’s administrative coordinator.
Police officers familiar with the incident said the incident occurred early in the morning. Delana Dallas Hudson, 51, a certified nursing assistant employed at the facility, was identified as the alleged perpetrator. Dallas Hudson was found to have pushed the victim to the ground after he repeatedly asked for ice. Witnesses confirmed the victim asked for ice, followed by the sound of someone falling.
One staff member said Dallas Hudson yelled, “Come on, punch me!” Arguing.
Further investigation revealed that the victim only requested ice, but Dallas Hudson provided ice and a cup of water. The mute victim followed Dallas Hudson, repeating “Ice”. Dallas Hudson grabbed the cup the victim was holding and crushed it, pouring ice water over the victim as she pushed him to the ground.
Officers arrested and interrogated Ms. Dallas Hudson, during which she admitted to crushing a cup held by the victim, which resulted in pouring ice water over the victim. In addition, Dallas Hudson confessed that she pressed the victim’s chest even though the victim did not indicate a threat of violence.
Dallas Hudson’s employment was subsequently terminated, after which she was arrested and charged with one count of abuse of an adult with a disability.
Fortunately, the victim only suffered minor injuries in the incident.
An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
