Salmonella outbreak from cantaloupe leaves dozens of people sick, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says warning on friday.
According to the CDC, a total of 43 people in 15 states have been infected with Salmonella, with 17 requiring hospitalization. The highest density of infections was in Arizona, with seven people infected.
Affected fruits include whole cantaloupes sold from October 16th to October 23rd and pre-cut Vineyard brand cantaloupes sold from October 30th to November 10th. It will be done.
The risk also includes Aldi-branded whole and pre-cut cantaloupes sold in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan and Wisconsin from Oct. 27 to Oct. 31.
The CDC is asking consumers to throw away recalled fruit and wash food carefully.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. In severe cases, especially children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems, it can lead to hospitalization and death.
The number of people affected by the outbreak may be higher than reported because Salmonella symptoms can take several days to surface and it takes time to determine whether a case is related to an outbreak. There may be many.
