Numerous studies have investigated the effects of collagen supplements and drinks on skin health, and the results are promising.
A review of 19 studies published in the International Journal of Dermatology found that participants who used collagen supplements experienced increased skin firmness, suppleness, and moisture content. Wrinkles are no longer noticeable.
However, it is important to note that most of these studies used supplements containing more than just collagen. It also contains additional ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid.
Randomized controlled trials have shown that collagen supplements containing certain peptides, such as prolyl hydroxyproline and hydroxyprolyl glycine, can improve skin moisture, elasticity, wrinkles, and roughness.
A study published in the research journal Dermatology Practical and Conceptual highlighted that both oral and topical collagen supplements effectively slow the aging process. Evidence suggests that oral collagen supplementation improves skin moisture, elasticity, and hydration. Furthermore, by replenishing collagen, it reduces wrinkles and roughness of the skin.
