Baton Rouge – Doctors may want to think twice before resorting to supplements to improve brain health.
“There are no supplements that have been proven to maintain brain health. One way to really think about brain health is to try and get as close to nature as possible,” said neurologist Dylan Wint.
For example, omega-3 fatty acids are promoted as beneficial for brain health.
Although you can buy supplements containing omega-3, research shows that it is much better to get them from food sources instead, such as salmon and flaxseed. And when it comes to diet, research has found that high levels of lean meat consumption can increase the risk of dementia.
If it’s too much, it can be difficult for our bodies.
“Large amounts of lean meat contain a large amount of saturated fat. When lean and processed lean meats release toxic products, waste, to the brain. Also, lean and processed meats can be packed with salt.
Another myth of brain health is that it can only be obtained if you run Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia in your family. Genetics can play a role, but that’s not the only factor.
Lifestyle is also important. Therefore, it is important to maintain a healthy diet, exercise and avoid bad habits such as smoking and drinking.
