A doctor shared five common symptoms of people with borderline personality disorder (BPD).

In a video posted earlier this year, a London-based doctor revealed five symptoms of borderline personality disorder to look out for.
Symptom 1
Dr. Mohamed points out that “emotional instability” is a common first symptom for people with borderline personality disorder.
“Emotions can go through extreme swings, from feeling very happy or content one moment to feeling very sad, distressed, or angry the next,” he explained.
“And these emotional states can change many times throughout the day.”

Symptom 2
Dr. Mohammed points out that people with borderline personality disorder often suffer from “unstable relationships.”
He claims that “people with borderline personality often have great difficulty maintaining stable relationships.”
“They immediately feel a strong connection with people and may think that person is a wonderful person,” Dr. Mohammed says.
“But when something doesn’t go as planned, they can feel very hurt, feel abused, and see that person as a very bad person.
“This pattern is often referred to as idealization and devaluation.”
Symptom 3
If someone you know is trying desperately not to be abandoned, you might want to be careful.
He explained: “Some people find it very difficult to relate to people with borderline personality.
“And in some cases, they may not want to continue the relationship.
“In times like this, borderline personalities may react in extreme ways, such as self-harming or cutting off the relationship before it ends, to avoid feeling abandoned. there is.”
Symptom #4
Having an “unstable self-image” literally refers to someone having an “unstable view of themselves.”
“They can quickly switch themselves from good to very bad, or from very capable to very useless, depending on their mood or what others say to them. ” said Dr. Mohammed.
Symptom #5
The last and most serious symptom is “repetitive self-harm or suicidal behavior.”
“Many people with borderline personality disorder feel extremely depressed and distressed, feel worthless, and may repeatedly self-harm, for example by cutting their skin or overdosing. Dr. Mohamed concluded.
