Doctor says he ‘would never take’ incredibly common health supplement for important reason – Food & Drink

A doctor on TikTok has revealed one popular health supplement he’ll never take, and for good reason.

We’re all trying our best to be a little healthier, but there’s a lot of conflicting information out there. Because some of us just take a multivitamin to try to balance out all the other bad choices we might be making.

We all love eating the wrong thing for breakfast or getting drunk on a Friday night, but there are some things a multivitamin just can’t fix.

A doctor advised about dietary supplements (dra_says)

But according to Dr. A, a UK-based general practitioner who shares his advice with his TikTok followers, multivitamins aren’t even worth taking.

Dr. A began by explaining that supplements such as shilajit, ashwagandha, and lion’s mane, which have become popular over the past few years, play a role.

But one thing that doesn’t get the Dr.’s approval is a good old multivitamin. Whether you take it in pill form or in cherry-flavored chews, you might be better off saving those five pounds and eating nothing at all.

After Shilijat et al. explained that it could be “very effective,” Dr. A explained: “However, many people still take this supplement, which is a type of multivitamin supplement, even though studies have shown that it can increase mortality rates.”

Furthermore, he added: “If you look behind the scenes of these multivitamins, you’ll find that they often contain more than 100 percent of the recommended daily intake of all the potentially dangerous vitamins and minerals, especially: Vitamin A and Vitamin K are dangerous. ”

According to the NHS Websitethe amount of vitamin A that adults need is:

“The amount of vitamin A that adults between the ages of 19 and 64 need is:

  • 700 μg per day for men
  • 600 μg per day for women

You should be able to get all the vitamin A you need from your diet.

Vitamin A that the body does not need immediately is stored for future use. That means you don’t need it every day. ”

Regarding vitamin K, “Adults need about 1 microgram of vitamin K per kilogram of body weight per day.”

The NHS also explains that there is “not enough evidence to know the effects of taking high doses of daily vitamin K supplements”.

However, Dr. A says, “It is not necessary to consume 100 percent of these vitamins and minerals, and fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin A and vitamin K are extremely dangerous and may lead to liver failure in the long term.” said. , bone problems, and even bleeding and thrombotic disorders. ”

That’s not fun.

When it comes to vitamins, it’s recommended that you get what you need from a balanced diet, and Dr. A is determined that it’s best to take vitamins tailored to your specific needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all vitamin. I did.
