PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency has arrested five persons, including a doctor, for their alleged involvement in supplying unregistered medicines to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and Afghanistan.
According to a statement issued by the FIA, the agency conducted searches in different areas of the provincial capital and Shabkadal area of Charsadda district and seized counterfeit and unregistered medicines worth Rs 77 million.
The statement said raids were conducted in Gulbahar area of the provincial capital and officials recovered counterfeit and unregistered medicines worth Rs 43.5 million on information provided by suspected suppliers.
The doctor was arrested after an initial investigation into the suspects, the statement said. Authorities also seized medicines worth Rs 28 million from the doctor’s house, also in Gulbahar district.
“Searches were also conducted in Shabkadal and counterfeit medicines worth Rs 5 million were seized from various warehouses,” the statement said, adding that a case has been registered against the arrested persons.
The statement said further investigation into the incident would be carried out in light of the Pakistan Drug Regulatory Authority’s report after testing the seized medicines.
