exercise Enthusiasts should be aware that jogging on highways is dangerous. Especially early in the morning, it is not uncommon to see people jogging in residential areas and parks. However, it seems that the number of joggers who use the shoulder of the main road with heavy traffic as a jogging course is increasing.
I recently saw a jogger in full gear jogging along the shoulder of a busy highway in Klang, Selangor. There is nothing wrong with exercising and staying fit. I fully support it. However, there is a suitable time and place, be it a park or a controlled circuit.
Don’t risk your dice. It is clear that the jogger is probably trying to simulate a marathon or running his event. These are typically done in a controlled environment. This includes certain highways being blocked or closed to accommodate running his circuits. In such cases, emergency services stand by while police control and direct traffic to keep marathon participants safe.
If a jogger, alone or in a group, decides to train for an upcoming event or is jogging for their leisure time, they should do so responsibly. Don’t treat the highway as a training ground. This can pose an unnecessary hazard to other road users. The road is shared by all, but should not be abused – always think safety. I’ve seen fatal accidents on the road even when fenders bend. This can be avoided if road users adopt a safety-first mentality.
Be a responsible road user. Don’t turn your attention to the wind.
