Idaho reports according to Ruth Brown
This summer, Idahon insurance coverage for some disability is automatically shifted after the state drops Idaho Blue Cross as the contract provider for dual-enrollee recipients.
Dual Enrollees are registered with both Medicaid and Medicare. Dual Enrollees often have low incomes and complex healthcare needs. Recently, the state changed its dual registration plan contract from Blue Cross in Idaho to United Healthcare, but the Blue Cross contract ended in June, with United Healthcare contracts not beginning until January 2026, and coverage raised concerns about the gap.
However, now United Healthcare will begin dual coverage in June.
In Idaho, approximately 26,000 people are enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid. Federally funded Medicare serves as a primary insurance policy. Medicaid covers services that Medicare does not have, such as home care and behavioral health. It also covers Medicare Premium and offers expanded benefits to commercial medical supplies and devices such as canes, disposable gloves, and adult diapers.
A letter from the Idaho Department of Health and Human Services to stakeholders, providers and subscribers will be posted on February 5th, “On June 1, 2025, dual members of (34 counties) will register Idaho or United’s Molina Healthcare. You need to. Healthcare is unless you choose to sign up with Morina’s Medicare Medicaid Adjustment Plan.”
According to IDHW spokesman AJ McWhorter, the remaining 10 counties will not be affected by the Idaho Blue Cross to United Healthcare as managed care is not available to double-qualified enrollees . Idaho Medicaid pays the service fee model for these counties.
According to the letter, Morina members who are currently registered with Medicaid or Blue Cross in Idaho will be in United’s Impruplan unless they choose to receive benefits through Morina. It will be automatically registered.
“Molina is the only health plan to provide Medicaid Medicare from June 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025. MMCP coverage will be available from January 1,” the letter states .
It is also in the department Website for FAQs, He said he would provide more information in the US mail in March.
