(NewsNation) — Republicans have been talking about repealing the Affordable Care Act for 13 years, but have failed to come up with an alternative to health care reform.

Health care is once again a focus of the presidential campaign, and was the subject of Wednesday night's debate hosted by NewsNation.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is promising “something better” than the ACA, which was enacted during the Obama administration. But Florida has more uninsured people than almost any other state.

So why should Americans trust him more than other Republicans on health care?

“We're going to go after cost. We're paying too much for everything,” DeSantis said. “We need price transparency. We need to hold drug companies accountable. We need to hold big insurance and big government accountable, and we're going to get it done. It's very important economically. I think it's very important for this country that we get that done.”

However, the governor has yet to announce specific policy proposals for what he plans to do in the health care sector if elected.he said in one article Interview on Sunday's NBC “Meet the Press” His campaign is likely to announce a proposal in the spring, he said.

In Florida, DeSantis' fiscal year 2023-2024 state budget includes $531 million in behavioral health services, including support for mental health treatment facilities, competency recovery services, and enhanced suicide and crisis lifeline services for 988 people. Contains more than $10,000 in funding.

A question about health care during NewsNation's panel was also posed to Vivek Ramaswamy, a 38-year-old entrepreneur who founded a biotech company.

He said the United States has a “broken health care system.”

“In a competitive market, we need to start offering a variety of insurance options that cover real health, including preventive medicine, diet, exercise, and lifestyle,” Ramaswamy said. “Here's how we're going to do it: Eliminate antitrust exemptions for health insurance companies. That's where competitive markets begin.”

Ramaswamy has long emphasized faith-based treatment over medication when it comes to mental health.

“Stop promoting artificial drug treatments and rely instead on faith-based approaches that restore purpose to people's lives,” Ramaswamy said. Posted in X.

He has also been vocal about removing “violently insane” people from the community and has pushed for involuntary commitment to mental health facilities.
