Hyderabad: The Telangana Drugs Control Agency (DCA) has seized the banned drug ‘Ofloxacin and Ornidazole Suspension’ in Secunderabad.
DCA Secretary VB Kamalasan Reddy said the combination of ofloxacin and ornidazole suspension, banned by the central government, was being illegally manufactured and sold by Lok Beta Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Thane, Maharashtra.
Acting on a credible input regarding sale of banned drugs, officials of DCA Secunderabad Zone conducted a raid at Jan Aushadhi Kendra near Secunderabad Railway Station in Chilkalguda and recovered the banned drug ‘Ofloxacin & Ornidazole Suspension (50 mg/125 mg)’.
In 2018, the national government banned the combined use of ofloxacin and ornidazole suspension in the greater public interest. The ban was enacted after the fixed-dose combination was found to pose potential health risks to humans and lack therapeutic justification.
