Floyd Lawrence Davis, MD passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on September 10, 2022. Born in New York City on January 3, 1924, Floyd grew up boxing, swimming, street he enjoyed hockey, football, baseball and tending animals on his friends’ farms in the summer. He moved to Burnsville, Georgia when he was 14 and attended the Gordon Military Academy until his graduation in 1942.

Having earned a commission as a first lieutenant from a non-commissioned officer, Floyd proudly served in the United States Army Medical Corps in France and Italy, and participated in the Rhineland Campaign during World War II. Floyd earned a Bronze His Star, Army Good Conduct, America His Campaign, Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign, World War II Victory Medal, Carbine and Rifle Shooting Badges. Floyd’s wartime experiences gave him the initial inspiration to become an ophthalmologist.

After the war, Floyd graduated from the University of Georgia School of Journalism. She then attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the Sorbonne University (Paris, France), the University of Groningen Medical School (Groningen, the Netherlands), and completed her external medical school residency at the Leonardo Eye Institute, UK. Rome, Italy and National Maternity Hospital – Dublin, Ireland. Floyd earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the University of Geneva School of Medicine in Geneva, Switzerland, using GI her bill benefits to pay for school. She completed internships at Emory University School of Medicine’s Crawford He Long Hospital, the Boston University School of Medicine Ophthalmology Residency Program, and has taught at Tufts University.

During an internship at Crawford Long in Atlanta, Floyd met his beloved Mary Gailmurd Davis when she was an orthopedic nurse. Mary later joined Floyd in Boston and married while he was completing his residency, and Mary continued nursing at Massachusetts General Hospital.In 1962 Floyd and Mary returned to Georgia, moving to East Her Point and Fa. Established her 53 year eye practice in Yetville. Floyd is passionate about his eye care and has helped generation after generation of patients. He was an Honorary Fellow of the South Fulton His Medical His Hospital, a Fellow of the French Academy of Ophthalmology, an Accredited Diploma of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Life His Fellow.

Floyd, who is fluent in French and fluent in Italian, German and Dutch, has enjoyed trips with his family back to France, Italy and Ireland, and one of his best trips at the age of 86, to Kenya, Africa. We enjoyed a safari to photograph the great migration in One of his family friends described Floyd as having a kind heart and an inquisitive mind, and a constant desire to learn in his later years.He spent summers in Maine I took a writing and photography course at. Floyd loved all sports, history, animals, friends, and life in general. Most of all, he loved his family.

Floyd is survived by the children of Daniel Weir (Eric) of Johns Creek, Georgia and Timothy Davis (Julie) of Carlsbad, California. his granddaughter, Mary Weir; and his niece, Pamela Davis. He died before his beloved wife of 46 years, Mary. and his older brother, Bill.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service honoring Floyd Davis on Saturday, October 8 at 11:00 am at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2850 Old Alabama Road, Johns Creek, GA 30022. The ceremony is followed by a celebration of life.
