I’ve heard about Lloyd’s rage, and it’s absolutely ridiculous.
The folks at Crunch Fitness aren’t thrilled to hear that David Burton is back in the body business.
Page Six heard that Crunch in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York has kicked out a gym guru and his wife. Nightlife legend Suzanne Virtue — when management learned he was building a rival sweatbox nearby last month.
Burton was touted in the 1990s as the guy who “made it cool” working out in nightclub-like gyms. But that chain closed in 2016, and the following year he sold another gym, TMPL.
Meanwhile, the duo are said to have been regulars at Crunch on 19th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues since the pandemic.
But in late April, a source close to the couple said Baruch attended training, but sources said Baruch “verbally” said he was no longer welcome because of her husband’s new business, ‘U’. It is said that he was told. She will open four blocks north on her 23rd Street in the old Chelsea YMCA, across from the Hotel Chelsea.
We hear Burton is not struggling. “He was a little amused,” the source said.
The sprawling 35,000-square-foot, three-story U is set to open May 31.
When we announced the new business last year, Burton told us: “We are building a place where trainers can push your limits with a machine so revolutionary that NASA has even considered bringing it to Mars.”
“The simulated EEG will convince your glutes that you just did 100 squats.
“At U, every time you leave the house, you walk out as a different person than the person who walked in,” he promised.
The couple got married in 1995 but divorced several times.
Crunch Fitness did not contact me.
