GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Many people went “over the edge” for a good cause Saturday — Easterseals MORC’s annual fundraiser in downtown Grand Rapids.
Community members and legislators go ‘beyond the limits’ to benefit mental health
“It was thrilling. It was very exciting. You know, I’m not afraid of heights, but I think it definitely gave me an adrenaline rush when I was leaning over the cliff,” said Congresswoman Hilary Scholten. After speaking to FOX 17, he said: She herself has exceeded her limits.
The U.S. team descended 272 feet (approximately 18 stories) down the Grand Rapids skyline.
Easter Seals MORC raised well over $117,000, and Amway donated $40,000 of that total.
“All the money raised today [Saturday] It will help support our behavioral health services and will remain here in West Michigan,” Easterseals Deputy Present Lindsay Calcaterra said.
This nonprofit organization has been providing health care services for more than 100 years and offers services to meet a variety of needs.
“Anyone who is suffering from mental illness, or just mental health issues in general, or autism, or anyone who has special needs,” Calcaterra added.
Approximately 21,000 Michiganders, both children and adults, benefit from programs that help with autism, behavioral health and even infant mental health.
“We help people reach their full potential and live as independently as possible in their communities,” Calcaterra explained.
Organizers say this is the highlight of the seventh annual “Over the Edge” fundraiser.
“So the sense of empowerment that comes from doing something like this, something that’s never been tried before, really embodies what we’re doing,” Calcaterra said. Told.
