SALISBURY, Pa. – Lehigh Valley Health Network will no longer provide chiropractic services starting in the spring, the organization announced Thursday.
A spokesperson for the health system said the move is part of a restructuring process already underway.
“Ten chiropractors are affected,” the network said in a statement. “An additional three chiropractors are affiliated but independent and are not affected.”
“Around 12 other members of staff are also joining the service, all of whom are likely to be redeployed to take up positions within the health network.”
LVHN announced in April that it would be phasing out chiropractic services, but patients will still have access to those services until then.
“In any large organization, restructuring may occur for a variety of reasons.”

“In any large organization, restructuring will occur from time to time for a variety of reasons,” the statement said. “This is one of those situations where restructuring may occur based on community needs and demands and other factors.”
In October, hundreds of employees were laid off by LVHN, one of the region's largest employers. LVHN has approximately 20,000 employees, and the fall workforce reductions represent approximately 1.2% of the workforce.
The announcement regarding chiropractic services comes nearly a month after LVHN announced its intention to merge with Jefferson Health.
Documents for the deal are expected to be filed with the Federal Trade Commission this month.
LVHN said in a statement: “At this time, both companies are continuing normal business operations as independent organizations.”
The two systems currently have a non-binding letter of intent to combine.
