Residents of Cherry Tree Lane in Clarendon are receiving trauma counselling after a gunman attacked their community on Sunday, leaving one person dead.

“We are pleased to be able to provide this information to the community,” said Senator Dana Morris-Dixon, Minister of Information, who was part of Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ team that visited the region on Monday. JIS News The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), along with the Chaplain Corps, have been very active in the community, engaging with children and adults, including the families of those who have died.
“Counselling is happening. JCF teams have been deployed and we have seen pastors working here providing counselling and support,” she said.
Morris Dixon said he was particularly concerned about the impact the incident will have on children, with many saying they are feeling scared.
“One woman told us she hid behind a car and someone who was also hiding behind a car died. It’s really distressing and a lot of people are suffering,” she said, noting that it was vital that trauma teams remain based in the area.
Morris Dixon urged residents to come forward with any information that could assist police in their investigation.
“Let’s not retaliate. Let’s leave it to the police. Let’s leave it to the police. [the killers] “Let’s demand justice. Let’s get justice for the families,” she appealed.
May Pen Mayor Councillor Joel Williams also condemned the brutal attack on the community and urged residents to tell police anything they know.
