Carlsbad, CA — One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to get in shape.
For Carlsbad native Jordan Veiga, he’s taking that concept to the next level, setting world records and raising awareness about mental health in the process.
30,000: That’s how many pullups Veiga wants to do.
“I personally set the bar very high. My goal is to do 1,000 pull-ups a day for 30 days. ‘ said Veiga.
To set the record, he must monitor each World Record Academy rep and set up cameras from different angles.
The 28-year-old says he has no pull-up records after the 24-hour timeframe.
“So I decided to go on this journey and do something that no one has ever done before,” Veiga said.
His journey began three months ago when he committed to improving himself.
“I’m in a really bad place mentally. I’ve been there before and I know a lot of people have, too,” he said, adding that his efforts have inspired people to I want to help you become a better version of yourself.
Not only does he raise awareness, he also raises funds. His goal is to donate his $100,000 to the National Alliance of Mental Institute.
On his road to setting a world record, he uses three different types of grips, changing grips for each set, and hopes to change people’s perceptions of mental illness along the way.
“I know there is a huge stigma around mental health, and my goal with this project is to break the mental health stigma one pull-up at a time,” Veiga said.
Veiga has a message for everyone struggling with mental health issues.
“I know it’s hard. I know for a fact that with the right help and the right people by your side, you can get through it. I’m here to help you get through it.” Let’s set the bar for 2023,” he added.
