Summer heat is bad news for your hair. Your lush locks lose moisture, becoming dry and weak. Also, hair problems like dandruff can add to the discomfort of scorching summers. It is important to nourish, hydrate and care for your hair during summers. An age-old Ayurvedic remedy to bring back the lost shine in your hair is to mix buttermilk with Triphala Churna and soak it overnight. This DIY remedy not only keeps your hair smooth and shiny but also helps in strengthening it from the roots. Apart from thoroughly cleansing the scalp, it also prevents premature greying of hair. The lactic acid in buttermilk is a mild alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that helps exfoliate the scalp and slough off dead skin cells. It also strengthens hair.
Triphala powder is often used in hair masks as it contains equal amounts of the benefits of three amazing herbs: Haritaki, Bibhitaki and Amla.
“This takra (buttermilk) recipe has worked for many of my patients who have hair problems due to dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema. Even those without hair problems can use it from time to time to cleanse the scalp and maintain or improve hair health,” Ayurvedic expert Dr Diksa Bhabusar Savariya said in her latest Instagram post.
